Erectile Dysfunction
        What You Can Do

It is a common mistake to think that struggling to get or maintain an erection is for older guys. It happens to men of all age's… teens and up. Causes can range from performance anxiety to physical problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, elevated cholesterol levels, and diabetes. Also many medications, especially blood pressure medications and anti-psychotic drugs, can cause erectile dysfunction or impotence as a side effect.

Impotence (or better known as "Erectile Dysfunction- ED" these days) can feel frustrating and humiliating, but let's keep it in perspective. How many times has a woman had sex and not had an orgasm, or not been "wet" enough. We all need a little help sometimes when our bodies are not cooperating with us, and this is simply nothing to be ashamed of.

Try to use impotence as a means to have better sex, rather than have it be worse. Use it as an opportunity to try new techniques, connect emotionally with your lover, and even get in touch with your masculinity in a new way. Remember that a man having an erection is not what makes a man.

Examples Of Potential Reasons

1) Medical Causes: high blood pressure, heart disease, elevated cholesterol levels,
    and diabetes.

2) Psychological Causes:
Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, and others.

3) Prescription Interaction:
A list of over-the-counter and prescription medications as
long as the Wall of China could be made to cover everything that can cause a "floppy"
penis. The best thing to do is make a list of all medications (including herbs &     supplements) that you are using and review them with a pharmacist and/or your     physician.

4) Biking:
Yep, it's true, temporary numbness can occur from riding bikes
(especially where a lot of hard-core road shock is going on).

5) Condoms:
Condoms that are too tight may cause a numbing sensation that decreases     feeling, thus make staying aroused or cumming more difficult. True, it can prolong sex,     but if you are struggling with E.D., then you should get a loose condom. We     recommend trying one like these-

Magnum XL
Is now the widest latex condom available. For those familiar with the original Magnum, XL is nearly 15% wider and about the same length. The XL is also about 15% wider than Trojan Large, 30% larger than average sized condoms, and is clearly the best choice for men who need protection with extra closet space.

Very Sensitive Condoms
Talk about a funky looking condom! This new condom by Trojan employs a unique design and shape to offer maximum sensitivity. While the bottom portion of the condom is more tapered, the rest of the condom features an extra wide shape to allow for a looser, more comfortable fit. Available with or without spermicide.

Now, this is not to say that you should ignore ongoing impotence, in fact we highly recommend you do not, and will cover important suggestions later in this article. What we are saying however, that this is an opportunity not a disaster. Solutions depend on the situation.

To Women-

Remember that giving pleasure to a man does not require him to have a hard-on. A nice blow job or hand massage feels just as nice to a man when his penis is soft as it does hard. It really depends on how comfortable you feel with one another. However, you don't want a woman trying to "squeeze" an erection out of a man when he simply isn't going to get one. The object is pleasure not performance if this suggestion is used. It may pleasure a man, or it can make him feel insecure and inadequate… again it really depends on comfort levels of the couple.

To Men-

You can make lemonade from lemons until you have figured out a more long-term solution for yourself- This can be a a good time for a man to use fingers, mouth and play toys to pleasure his partner. Female Ejaculation in particular is more easily achieved when full attention can be given to a woman's pleasure and this is a great time to do it!

Also remember that your female lover may be feeling rejected. Women often worry that it is because of them (i.e.: that they are not attractive enough.) That is why if both partners are willing it is an excellent time to play with your lovely lady as it will make her feel truly appreciated and she will thank you for the selfless attention!

Warning- GET A PHYSICAL EXAM IF THIS PROBLEM IS ONGOING

Continued episodes of Erectile Dysfunction in men (especially over forty) can be one of the first signs of an impending stroke or heart attack. The arteries in the penis start to "clog" up before the rest of the body, so getting an exam is a good idea!

Treatment-

If you or a man in your life has issues with a "floppy" penis and it is an ongoing issue it is time to take that sleeping one eyed snake into see the Doc. It is estimated that well over 50% of all Erectile Dysfunction is due to a physical cause anything from diabetes to god only knows. The Doctor may just do a little test after asking some questions as to whether the "pokey pecker" ever gets hard-ons these days. The test allows a man to see if he is catching wood in his sleep. If he is, then most M.D.'s say the problem is psychological. However medications can be an influence so any medications being taken should be examined for their side effects.

There is evidence that depression can actually keep a guy from getting a stiff one even in his sleep.

Diabetes & Erectile Dysfunction
What You Can Do To Enhance Erection

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is very common in men with diabetes. The reasons are complex but include changes in both blood vessels and nerves of the penis. The first step in handling this problem is support from a partner or spouse. With such support, all things are possible.

Viagra
There are many treatment options for ED in men with diabetes. Viagra is one option, although it may be less effective in men with diabetes. This does not mean it will not work, it just means that you have less of a chance of it working. It is still an option that may well worth exploring.

Injection or Insertion Therapy
Injection therapy uses a drug that is given with a syringe and needle directly into the erect portion of the penis. It thus places the medication directly where it is needed and is one of the most effective methods to treat ED. For men who do not desire injections, the same medication is available as a pellet and is inserted into the urinary opening at the head of the penis. You can obtain this by getting a prescription from your physician.

Vacuum Erection Device (Penis Pump)
This uncomplicated device uses a clear plastic cylinder that is placed around the penis and uses a pump mechanism to create a vacuum around the penis. The vacuum causes the penis to become erect, and when it is suitably erect, a band or "cock ring" is placed around the base of the penis. The pump is then removed and intercourse performed. When done, the band is removed and the penis returns to its non-erect form.

Penile Prosthesis (Implant)
A penile implant is a device that is placed into a man’s body and is designed to help him get an erection. Following the routine outpatient procedure, a four to eight week recovery period is necessary before the implant is used. The hospital stay is usually overnight or for two days. This technique has been developed extensively over the past decades and is now very standardized. There are a number of patient education documents available. The two largest providers of penile prostheses are Mentor Corp and American Medical Systems.

When implanted, the penile implants are not visibly noticeable. The penis appears relaxed and normal in the flaccid state, and it is not obvious by looking at a man that he has an implant. You should be able to have an orgasm with a penile implant if you were able to have one before your surgery, unless you have another medical problem that affects it.

Get Help From A Physician

No matter what treatment you ultimately choose, you will need to develop a relationship with a doctor who has experience in offering all forms of diabetes treatment. Urologists have a special expertise in this area and can discuss all of these options.
