ASACP
Receives Service Recognition
Award
First Amendment attorney Lawrence G. Walters
received the 2005 Annual Service Recognition Award from Adult
Sites Against Child Pornography (ASACP), during the January 6th,
2005 XBiz Awards presentation in Las Vegas. Director Joan Irvine
congratulated Walters for being a staunch supporter of ASACP and
for caring about children, and offering his services to the group
pro bono.
Known for representing adult entertainment and other clients in
First Amendment cases, Walters founded the Internet Freedom Association
and is a member of Free Speech Coalition's Internet Committee.
He also founded and chairs the Florida Bar Association's First
Amendment Law Committee. Walters most recently addressed a Free
Speech Coalition gathering on updates to Title 18, Section 2257,
and the newly-expanded federal labeling law, during this month's
Adult Entertainment Expo. We applaud Walters and the ASACP for
all the wonderful work that they do!
ASACP Changes Name
& Broadens Mission
What
was born as Adult Sites Against Child Pornography is now known
as the Association of
Sites Advocating Child Protection, and with the name change
comes a revamped Website and what's hoped to be more effective
interaction with government and mainstream groups in the battle
to eradicate online child porn
Founded in 1996, ASACP now receives over five thousand reports
of suspected child porn per month and notifies federal law enforcement,
the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and state
attorneys general's offices of over three thousand validated child
porn sites each year.
The ASACP system offers online validation of approved members
and sponsors, and verifies compliance with the ASACP Code of Ethics
by spidering for unacceptable terms which could be taken to denote
child porn. We commend them on their efforts!
