Why Does The Gay Community Tend To Like Tammy Faye?

Tammy Faye was one of the very few to insist on reaching out to AIDS victims with genuine compassion. She stressed that believers needed to embrace and love the gay community rather than condemn them. But more to the point, Tammy Faye practiced this sermon. She visited AIDS victims and spent valuable time with them. For this reason many in the gay community have grown to respect Tammy Faye. This is perhaps the one quality that makes her different from others of her ilk, and it is a quality worthy of both recognition and respect.

Tammy Faye however tends to preach of God in a performance oriented way. Seems that many are drawn to the less cerebral way of approaching spirituality and are led by flash and entertainment.

In fact, it seems that the film reminded me of how too often, like sheep most people accept such preaching as fact rather than doing their own soul searching. While the film holds positive aspects of Tammy and how to live comppasionatly it also reminds one of the ridiculous ways people have used religion to cause harm instead of using the spirituality of man to simply show love, compassion and the golden rule of helping others for the simple way it nourishes our soul. Tammy Faye shows these as universal traits not through religion, but through a pure heart.

Hi Jenny,

It’s pretty common for a woman to experience breast tenderness with ovulation. Symptoms of premenstrual breast tenderness may range from mild to severe. Symptoms typically peak just before each menstrual period and improve immediately after or during the menstrual period.

The tenderness is often lower in women taking birth control pills as the ovulation is not occurring. Factors that influence this may include...

~ Family history

~ Excessive dietary fat- animal fats in particular contribute to breast pain. The reason here is less clear but may have to do with the animals' own hormones or what they have been given to eat or the way the fat is broken down. Remember that these days animals are given all kinds of things to make them grow faster and get the meat to market so watch your intake during that time of month.

~ Dairy products are the culprit. Again the exact reason is unclear. These women may have an underlying allergy to the dairy products or may be reacting again to the hormones that were fed to the cows.

~ Caffeine

~ High salt diets increase swelling by causing fluid retention and this also puts a strain on the breast tissue.

~ Some psychiatric medications or antidepressants may increase breast pain. Even some cholesterol-lowering and heart medications can cause breast changes.

~ Stress. Scientists are only beginning to understand the links between the immune system, our emotions and our hormones. Everyone has different stress levels and stressors, but it is a truism that too much stress is not good.

While it is most likely ovulation that is causing it based on it being a regular thing, you should check your breasts throughout your cycle to find out what is "normal" for you, as a baseline. You can do this by taking note, literally on a calendar, of any discomfort before and during your period. Then, once you have been off your active pills for seven days, you can do a breast self-exam.

Breast tenderness can also be a symptom of pregnancy but would not occur before a missed period. It can also be a sign of something more serious such as cancer... check for any unusual lumps, increased areas of sensitivity or pain, or other changes that may be a cause of concern. If you detect something or just want reassurance, you can make an appointment to see your health care provider.

Treatment Ideas-

Add vitamins E and A to your diet.

Reduce the salt in your diet, especially 1 to 2 weeks before your period.

Wear a bra that gives good support, especially if you exercise or have large breasts.

Put heat on your breast with a heating pad or warm water bottle.

I know I may be a little late in responding to your news posting (Legalizing Prostitution), but just came across it when I was researching prostitution. I am for legalizing it.

Currently I work for a juvenile center that houses boys and girls. I work with the girls, teenage girls. Many that have crossed by path are prostitutes or have slept with customers for a return of a community. The rate of this situation is rising. Teen-ager girls are turning to this work because of the fast money. They see an outlet in this business. The girls run away from their home due to some kind of negative crisis that is happening to them, i.e. physical, mental sexual abuse. They long to belong to a family structure and provide for themselves. Therefore they turn to this profession.

It is a sad day when they come to our center. They are black and blue, and have multiple sexual transmitted diseases. Not to mention the emotional abuse they have endured. This in turn places them into the world of drugs and self abuse. The list continues. However, to help curve the want or the luster this occupation creates, we need to make it legal. Prostitutes should have to pay taxes, and receive a monthly testing by the government. This will create a price war to run down the prices of sex for money. Plus the government can in turn use the money generated to help pay for new mental hospitals for our young girls. Not to mention the lower rate of abuse, rape, drug use and sexual transmitted diseases.

Like you I am not giving my stamp of approval for this occupation, based on my morals or values. However, as we have learned from the past by the history of prohibition in the 1940's, we cannot stop Americans from doing something based on our morals and values. We can only curb the appeal, legalize it.

Legislature Passes Adult Entertainment Internet Law

Legislators in Utah are not wanting to appear soft on adult entertainment and have passed a constitutionally flawed Internet bill (HB 260) by a vote of 71-0. If the bill is signed into law by the Governor, anyone creating or hosting Internet content in Utah will be required to rate their own content for its suitability for minors, and Internet service providers in Utah will be required to block registered content to Utah customers upon request.

Criminal penalties will result for anyone failing to rate their own content. The result will be a Utah registry of “adult content providers.” (Adult content is defined in the bill as any material deemed “harmful to minors.”) In addition, HB 260 would automatically punish Internet sites refusing to rate their content by throwing them into the adult registry, even if they don’t serve up anything remotely resembling adult entertainment.

As the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) points out, the technical mechanisms for blocking adult entertainment will almost invariably lead to the blockage of innocent web sites that are wholly unrelated to the web sites targeted by the bill. Similar blocking orders in Pennsylvania were declared unconstitutional in CDT v. Pappert after the court determined that the orders led to the blocking of more than one million innocent web sites. Furthermore, says the CDT in a lengthy position paper, requiring content providers to label their content will be found to be unconstitutional under the First Amendment. Speakers cannot constitutionally be required to self-evaluate their speech and declare it to be “harmful to minors.”

New Bill Invites Churches To Sue Adult Businesses

A State Senate bill called the Florida Commercial Anti-Pornography Act (SB 1876) has been introduced by Senator Siplin. SB 1879 provides civil penalties against persons who distribute “pornography” for commercial purposes. The bill allows “any person, including a church or religious organization, or other representative group or organization” to bring action under the act.

If civil penalties are assessed in the litigation, the plaintiff (individual or group) is entitled to reasonable attorney’s fees and costs. However, the actual civil penalties are deposited into Florida’s General Revenue Fund. “Pornography,” in this proposal, is defined in language similar to the definition of obscenity laid down by the U.S. Supreme Court in Miller v California; although the language is somewhat abbreviated, leaving out entirely the “patently offensive” criterion that is essential to the Miller test.

Setting aside the confusion over language, and setting aside the various constitutional issues of civil actions and the First Amendment, what is perhaps scariest about this bill is the flagrant recruitment of churches to assist state purposes. “Extending the remedies provided under this act to any church or religious organization, or other representative group or organization within this state, will further the purposes of this act and result in a general benefit to the health and welfare of the people of the state,” says the bill, blatantly, in a preamble.

New Human Rights Campaign President

Political activist Joe Solmonese has taken the top job at the nation's largest homosexual advocacy group. Joe is a forty-year-old the former CEO of EMILY's List, is the new president of the Human Rights Campaign.

Shortly after he starts his new job in mid-April, Solmonese said he plans to tour the country, in an effort to "broaden the American conversation about equality," and he's urging the "GLBT" community to enlist the support of straight Americans. He plans to ask every "GLBT" American to "enlist three new allies - a straight co-worker, a friend and a family member -- in our work for full equality."

Congress Funding Through Porn Connections

Many Members of Congress have made “moral values” a platform on which to base political campaigns and consider themselves crusaders intent on protecting Americans from debauchery. As examples of our national moral decay, members have pointed to the baring of Janet Jackson’s breast during the 2003 Super Bowl half-time show, the Howard Stern radio show, and even the airing of “Saving Private Ryan.”

Yet while denouncing the decline in public morality, many of those same Members accept money from corporations that derive substantial profits from pornography. Although they do not advertise it, companies as diverse as Comcast and Marriott International make enormous amounts of money by selling pornography.

Ironically, some of this money winds up in the political war chests of pornography’s most outspoken Congressional critics. In the following report, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) reveals that some of the Members of Congress who publicly rail against the evils of pornography are only too happy to accept political contributions from those who derive income from the sale of pornography.

These Members allege support for legislation penalizing obscenity one moment and fill their campaign coffers with pornography profits the next. It is this rank hypocrisy that this report exposes.

The Cosmo Kama Sutra
77 Mind-numbing Sex Positions

Cosmo’s latest attempt at reinventing sex falls short of its goal as do many sex manuals promising many new and exciting techniques. The Cosmo Kama Sutra: 77 Mind-blowing Sex Positions is supposed to be based on the sexual guide of the Kama Sutra, an ancient Sanskrit text. However, what many fail to realize is that the Kama Sutra is much more than a guide to sexual positions, it is a treatise on relationships and society, with only one of its seven parts devoted to sex.

Cosmo’s version, though updated for the modern reader with clever positions such as “Romp with a View” is less than revolutionary. Though it includes small sections on sex-related activities such as “Mood Makers vs. Deal Breakers” and “Lube Lowdown” (a guide to choosing the right lubrication), its primary focus — sex positions — is derivative and trite.

Each of the 77 positions is illustrated with bright colors and sharp angles. Unlike other sex guides, which provide elaborate illustrations or photographs, Cosmo delivers two-dimensional figures that lack shading, realistic features or detail of any kind. Although the angles are varied in order to allow the most comprehensive view of each position, readers will have difficulty understanding the realistic difficulties or advantages of each pose because of the absence of any anatomical detail.

Many of the positions described would be impractical for couples in which either partner is larger than a size three. Twosomes with great height differences will also have difficulty. The Cosmo Kama Sutra is a mediocre approach to appease surface, pop culture sexuality.

Kids Share Their Religious, Shame Based,
Abstinence Stories

A group of six kids from across the state will share their personal stories about sexual abstinence with students at Oconomowoc High School. Called True2Life (T2L), the group is part of the Wisconsin Abstinence Initiative for Youth, which travels throughout the state, talking about how remaining sexually abstinent helps to build character and allows students to focus on achieving goals.

One of the speakers is OHS class of 2004 graduate Hannah Guerra. "I lost my virginity when I was 15. A year and a half later, I believe, I repented and turned away from sexual impurity to a new life of faith. This is when I stopped having sex," Guerra explained in her T2L profile. "To physically stop having sex was easy, but now I am searching to find myself. I not only gave my virginity away, I lost myself. Engaging in sex before marriage chained me to shame and guilt, which caused me to hide my passions and emotions.

Back up... guilt from whom... oh that is right all of the repressed adults that provided her with guilt and shame rather than simply explaining to her that she may be too young to be having sex without attaching a scarlet letter to her behavior.

Choosing to stay abstinent has brought me freedom from the things that chained me," she added. "People respect people who make a value statement. "It's never too late to start making good decisions with your life."

Madonna Sued For Sexual Harassment

Madonna was not involved in sexual harassment, but Yael Oestreich, a former vice president of development at Madonna's Maverick Films, has sued the company's executives over sexual harassment and wrongful termination. The woman claims Maverick CEO Mark Morgan had promised her a raise, but instead fired her in July without cause.

Earlier in November 2003, Morgan allegedly called her "uptight" for not participating in talks about sex and accused her of sleeping with three agents at her previous job at United Talent Agency. "Inappropriate sexual inquiries" continued in the months following, and when she reported the alleged harassment, she was accused of being insecure. The suit alleges that Maverick's co-founder Guy Oseary and Madonna "failed to conduct a reasonable investigation into defendant Morgan's background before hiring him and knew or should have known of his propensity for sexual harassment and discrimination." Oestreich is seeking general damages, medical expenses, loss of earnings and punitive and exemplary damages. Madonna's Maverick Films has produced the "Agent Cody Banks" movies.

New Mexico Shuns Abstinence Only Program

New Mexico schools have shuned an abstinence-only group after saying that the demand for their presentations at Albuquerque public schools has plummeted after media reports and school officials questioned whether the group's lessons are medically accurate. Officials with the Best Choice Educational Services, which conducts the abstinence-only classes, say local schools have been "confused" by the scrutiny of its program, which they insist contains medically accurate data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But Albuquerque school board member Miguel Acosta and some public-health officials in the city have said the program provides false information about condoms' effectiveness in protecting against sexually transmitted diseases. Most of the 25 Albuquerque public schools that invited BCES to conduct abstinence-only sessions last year have not asked the agency to return this year, says BCES peer mentoring director Mandi Dotson. BCES executive director David Magruder says the falling demand for the program could threaten its funding. With fewer students attending BCES's abstinence-only classes--about 3,400 have participated in the classes so far this year, down from about 5,000 students at the same point in 2004--the group may lose out on some of the $75,000 in state funds and $536,000 in federal grants it receives each year.

XXX Church Not What You Think & Nothing Special

So these two guys Mike and Craig who obviously are into getting publicity have come out against porn in a Viva LaBam style based on what they claim to be Christian motives. Their new documentary Missionary Positions which is an attempt help the poor, suffering masses who are in the grips of the filthy plague of porn that is sweeping the world through the Internet.

Yes, they’re for real, but they’re more Jackass than Falwell preaching that porn "stems from... our sinful flesh." The self-proclaimed “Porn Pastors” use midgets, puppets, and smirky, pranky commercials to reach followers. They put up billboards, drive around in their Porn Car, fly banners across beaches, and build “the number 1 Christian porn site – xxxchurch.com.” But doing the work of the Lord is not always easy. Not only are there money problems and personality conflicts, but also hate mail and Turkish computer hackers attempting to destroy their on-line ministry. Their wives are suspicious, and Christian power politico Pat Roberston won’t let them on his Christian news show.

There is no such thing as ALWAYS Good or Bad-

What is really tiring to me, are all of the extremes that people keep clinging too. From ALL porn is wrong, immoral to ALL porn is good. ALL sex is good to ALL sex is immoral unless for procreation or if you are married and even then only when a man is on top. Who says?!?

People! What is wrong with us! Nothing is black and white, there is a paradox to all things. Some porn is healthy and positive, some porn is negative and harmful. Just like anything in life it boils down to moderation, balance, intentions. Etc.

Do we want to destroy our sexuality through such extremes from shame and fear to meaningless and damaging sexuality? Why can't we seem to understand that sexuality is beautiful, but encourage healthy forms of it that empower both men and women, that allow consenting adult freedom of sexual creativity?

Gay or straight, porn for entertainment, better sex videos, books, sex toys... all fine just make them from a place of good intention, to empower people not use them. It is the same reason that our television is so crappy... surface, out to make a buck focusing on looking to exploit, use and destroy. Nothing will get better in the world of extremes that we live in until we start becoming the responsible, accountable, loving, giving, compassionate people that we can be... until then we will continue to surround ourselves with a surface circus of entertainers out to make a buck with no substance on both sides of the argument.

AVN Award To Premiere March 13th On Playboy

The 2005 AVN Awards will make its world broadcast premiere this Sunday night March 13th on Playboy TV. The 22nd annual ceremony recognizes the best in adult entertainment for the past year. The 2005 show marks the 10th straight year the AVN Awards have been aired on a premium adult network.

Don't Sensor My F***ing Cable!

The National Association of Broadcasters President, Eddie Fritts likes the idea of indecency restrictions on cable, and has suggested that on-air broadcasters would be willing to consider a package deal with federal legislators, perhaps as part of a larger telecommunications bill.

In other words, broadcasters might accept higher penalties if new restrictions also applied to cable. Broadcasters, of course, are in competition with cable and apparently would like a level playing field, even if the same pabulum is served up on both.

This proposed pact with the devil came after a talk by Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) at the annual NAB state leadership conference here. In his presentation, Stevens, who is Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee, promised to bring the same indecency restrictions to cable as it is currently foisting on broadcasters. National Cable & Telecommunications Association President McSlarrow, on the other hand, says there is no reason for the government to reverse long-standing exemptions for cable given all the options subscribers have for blocking channels they don’t want to see.

Sin Tax

You gotta love the name of this tax... apparently there is not shame in clearly showing how those fundamentalist conservatives feel that religious shame around the beauty of sexuality should dominate us all.

The Oklahoma state House has approved a bill (House Bill 15-32) proposing a “sin-tax” of ten percent on both adult entertainment businesses and escort services. Revenues from the Sexually Explicit Business and Escort Service Tax Act will be dedicated to domestic violence and sexual abuse programs. Some of the tax revenues will also help self-employed Oklahomans afford health insurance. However, lumping escort services with dance clubs and other adult entertainment could make it more difficult for the bill to pass the Senate.

Escort services are frequently fronts for prostitution, said Representative Debbie Blackburn, and the measure makes it appear that the state is encouraging the businesses to work harder. Taxing sex-oriented businesses in general, say some opponents, could give them a legitimacy they don’t deserve.

Attorney General Gonzales After Adult Entertainment

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is moving to more aggressively prosecute obscenity cases, and has laid out a broader agenda much like his predecessor, John Ashcroft. In his first lengthy address since becoming attorney general in early February, Gonzales said people who distribute obscene materials do not enjoy constitutional guarantees of free speech.

"I am committed to prosecuting these crimes aggressively," he said to a Washington meeting of the California-based Hoover Institution. The Justice Department is appealing the dismissal of an obscenity case in Pittsburgh in which a federal judge said prosecutors went too far in trying to block the sale of pornographic movies over the Internet and through the mail.

The case initially was prosecuted under Ashcroft. Gonzales, the son of Mexican immigrants, said the Justice Department also would continue its recent stepped-up activity in human trafficking investigations and prosecutions. "Its victims are usually aliens, many of them women and children who are smuggled into our country and held in bondage," he said.

The Justice Department also is sending teams of federal agents to five more cities struggling with violent crime, Gonzales said, extending a program begun last year in 15 cities. The cities are: Camden, N.J.; Fresno, Calif.; Hartford, Conn.; Houston; and New Orleans.

Abortion Ban News

The ACLU, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and Planned Parenthood Federation of America asked a federal court to strike down a broad abortion ban that would outlaw virtually all abortions in the state and interfere with a doctor's ability to provide other critical health care services. "This radical law goes far beyond any other legislation in the country, threatening women's ability to obtain even a first-trimester abortion and, in some instances, preventing doctors from treating miscarriages," said Rev. Mark Pawlowski, CEO of Planned Parenthood of South Central Michigan, a plaintiff in the lawsuit. Mississippi City Banning Porn Sales

In Magnolia, Mississippi an ordinance to ban the sale of sexually explicit material has been instated. The small city of Magnolia covers 3.2 square miles and has a population of just over 2,000. The board acted during the first week of March after receiving complaints from ministers and others offended by what they said were pornographic magazines being displayed at some area stores.

Possessing pornography, however, is not illegal under the new ordinance. "It has no place in our town. I would like to see it out of our community altogether," Alderman George "Lucky" Chaplain told the news service. Mayor Jim Storer said that he does not see the ordinance as being in conflict with free speech rights. Which of course means he is blind to the very definition of free speech.

Storer said businesses caught selling pornographic material could be cited and fined, although no specific penalty has been established. "There would be a citation and then a charge for that citation ... it's not fixed at this time."
