custody in workhouses like the Magdalene convent, until these
hellholes were finally closed down in 1996!

Yet no one from the Catholic Church has ever been prosecuted or held accountable for these atrocities. Events depicted in The Magdalene Sisters are completely true. Many of the survivors are still alive to tell their stories, and have already done so in the riveting documentary Love in a Cold Climate, and a special report on CBS’s 60 Minutes, both of which inspired Mr. Mullan to make this film.

The film captures Ireland in the sixties where four women are given into the custody of the Madgalene sisterhood asylum to correct their more or less "sinful" behavior: Crispina and Rose have given birth to a child out of wedlock, Margaret was raped by her cousin and the orphan Bernadette had been repeatedly caught flirting with the boys. All have to work in a laundry under the strict supervision of the nuns, who break their wills through sadistic punishments. Some of the girls ironically were sexually abused by the Catholic Priests that governed the work house. Some of the inmates develop countermeasures, while others perish under the treatment.

Vanity aside, I believe this to be a bad idea. Not only because of the surgical risks you had mentioned, but what about the emotional risks? Although a person is considered an adult at age 18, there's still a lot of growing up to do. It's tough enough to be 18 in an 18 yr old body, never mind being 18 with the body of a 30 year old. Let's arm our daughters for college with nice new 36C breasts... somehow, that seems like it takes the focus off developing the mind, and more focus on the "extracurricular activities" that college has to offer.

I've also heard the excuse of, "well, maybe she'll feel better about herself if her breasts were just a little bigger". If the suit doesn't make the man, then why to breasts make the woman? If you have a daughter who doesn't feel good about herself, there may be a LITTLE more to it then her bra size. Just a hunch here... Measuring Time Left On A Woman's Biological Clock

Researchers in the UK have reported that they have developed a formula for calculating how many egg follicles a human ovary contains based on its size, an insight they hope eventually will help predict how many years of fertility a woman has left.

A test using an ultrasound scan may someday be able to accurately predict how many childbearing years are left for women whose fertility has been damaged by cancer treatments, although more research is needed. This test could eventually be available to healthy women trying to decide when to have children.

Fertility information would be particularly useful to women who have had chemotherapy as children or young adults and do not know how much the treatment will shorten their childbearing years, the researchers said. Women are born with all the eggs they will ever have and lose some every year.

Doctors have long been aware that the size of the ovary is a good indicator of how many eggs are left, and infertility clinics often use ultrasound scanners to measure patients' ovaries and determine whether they are likely to conceive with treatment. This new test could aid in that process.

Backstreet Boy Focuses on Colon Cancer Education

Kevin Richardson of the band the Backstreet Boys understands that talking about colons can be an unpleasant subject. ``But if it can save someone's life, it's worth it,'' said Richardson, who appears in a series of public service announcements that urge children to discuss colon, or colorectal, cancer and its treatment with their parents.

Richardson said he feels a responsibility to educate others about the disease that ended the life of his father in 1991. Richardson thinks if children talk to their parents about colon cancer, it will encourage parents to seek information about the disease before it's too late. ``Children have a great impact on their parents,'' said Richardson

In 2004, about 147,000 new cases of colorectal cancer will be diagnosed and about 56,700 people will die of the disease, said Leonard Lichtenfeld, a deputy chief medical officer with the American Cancer Society. Priest Publishes Book Of His Sex Exploits

Argentina Priest has stunned many with sexual memoirs. They used to call him the 'Click Priest', because he was best known for signing off the programming on an Argentine TV station each night. But Fr José Mariani has now become Argentina's 'Sex Priest', following his publication of a book of racy memoirs that is on track to become a global publishing phenomenon. In Unrestrained, the Life of a Priest, 77-year-old Mariani tells of his sexual exploits, with both women and men, sometimes in great detail.

'I challenge any member of the church who claims to have lived correctly to open up his life the way I have done,' Mariani said from his pulpit. 'I don't regret anything. I'm ready to have my head cut off.' The Catholic hierarchy is puzzled over how to react. Cordoba's archbishop, Carlos Nanez, said he will await the decision of a church tribunal before deciding whether to remove Mariani from his parish. 'I am deeply grieved by the confusion and perplexity he has caused many people,' said the archbishop.

Why did Mariani decide to throw himself into the public glare with his revelations?

'I believe that the number of cases of sexual abuse that we have been hearing about recently would be reduced substantially if the church would deal with this issue openly,' he said. He says he does not know how long he will be allowed to stay on as parish priest in Villa Belgrano, saying only: 'I intend to stay here until I can't stay here any longer.

Low DHEA, Not Testosterone
May Contribute To Low Libido In Women

Doctors have long blamed low sex drive in women on dwindling testosterone levels and many females are being encouraged to top up their testosterone with pills, patches, creams and gels designed for, and officially approved only for use in, men.

But Australian researchers who examined 1,423 women, aged 18 to 75, found low levels of DHEA, a hormone produced by the adrenal gland, is significantly associated with desire and arousal problems in women under 45. Low testosterone, on the other hand, "bears no relationship to low libido" in women in this age group.

"The findings from this study are absolutely fundamental to developing a sound clinical approach to the assessment of women presenting with low libido," says Dr. Susan Davis, director of research at the Australian-based Jean Hailes Foundation, a woman's health organization.

DHEA supplements are available over-the-counter in pharmacies, health food stores and supermarkets across the U.S. No DHEA products have been approved in Canada, but the hormone can be obtained by doctors under Health Canada's special access program.

Some doctors now routinely recommend women experiencing sexual problems have their blood testosterone checked. The assumption has been that, what works in men works in women. "Men have more testosterone and men tend to have higher libidos than women," Davis said in an interview.

Men with low testosterone, on the other hand, lose their libido and "erectile capacity," she says. "So a lot of what has been considered normal or abnormal for women is really an extrapolation from men." Her team randomly recruited women by phone by using the Australian electoral roll. They found no differences in testosterone levels between women who reported low sex-drive, and those who did not. But women who complained of waning libido were up to four times more likely than other women to have low DHEA levels. Several groups, including consumer product giant Procter & Gamble, are testing a transdermal testosterone patch designed specifically for women. But Davis cautions that a woman shouldn't put on a skin patch or other testosterone therapy based purely on a low testosterone score.

But low libido in a woman may have less to do with a medical problem than with her relationship, stress levels and life experiences.

IRS Says Married Gays May Not File Jointly

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service that says same-sex couples cannot file federal taxes as marrieds. "Only married individuals," as defined under the federal Defense of Marriage Act, "could elect to file a joint tax return," the IRS said in response to a letter from the Public Advocate of the United States.

"Even though a state may recognize a union of two people of the same sex as a legal marriage for the purposes within that state's authority, that recognition has no effect for purposes of federal law." "A taxpayer in such a relationship may not claim the status of a married person on the federal income tax return," the agency said. The group said the IRS letter represents, "a victory for the American family." The IRS response was sent in reply to concerns raised by the group as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts moved closer to permitting legal gay marriage ceremonies to be conducted within its borders.

Oklahoma Judge Masturbating With

Sapulpa District Judge Donald Thompson, 57 has been accused of frequently masturbated and used a device for enhancing erections while his court was in session. The judge says he received a penis pump for his 50th birthday as a gag gift, which became a source of a running joke in the courthouse.

"On one occasion, Ms. (Lisa) Foster (Thompson's court reporter for 15 years), saw Judge Thompson holding his penis up and shaving underneath it with a disposable razor while on the bench," the petition reads. Several witnesses, including jurors in Thompson's court and police officers called to testify in trials, said in the petition they heard the "swooshing" sound of a penis pump during trials and saw the judge slumped in his chair, with his elbows on his knees, working the device. The witnesses said the pump sounded like a blood pressure cuff being pumped up.

According to the petition, Thompson admitted he had a penis pump under the bench during a murder trial but he told investigators it was a gag gift from a friend. The petition also charges Thompson with firing his former court reporter after she cooperated with investigators.
