Some are
calling it Erotica for Women, and others call it Porn
for Women. Whatever one chooses to call it, pornography
for women has steadily grown on the Internet as well as sex

Only a few
years ago, women looking for photos of a naked straight man
would have been disappointed. Some women have even said that

Now the

We might
start to see more realistic, honest, or sensual depictions of
sex in the current climate of conservatism and censorship. Anti-porn
crusaders and extreme feminists insist that ALL porn must be
banned because it is degrading to women. While SOME porn may
fit this bill, it's difficult to argue that women's erotica
does. In fact, it does quite the opposite by empowering women
to explore their sexuality, and creating a more level playing
field.
Full frontal
male nudity on film and television is rare, while female nudity
is commonplace, but thankfully the Internet has made the balance
is slightly more even. In
years past, it was assumed that only men liked porn and masturbation,
it was something that women "just didn't do." Kinsey's report
in the 50's seemed to confirm this, despite the fact that the
women in the sample had never been exposed to porn, nor had
been brought up to believe they could like it.
Fifty years
later, these misconceptions are slowly being broken down. Women
DO like porn. The difference is that when marketing to women
many companies respect that they should provide mental and emotional
stimulation along with the sex. Personally, I think that this
is discrimination toward men because I feel that men need mental
and emotional stimulation too, but perhaps porn for women will
be a step further into some companies understanding that.
As more

will continue to grow and thrive and hopefully society will

as a result! There is still a long way to go when it comes to
addressing women's sexuality, but I am confident that we shall
overcome the obstacles that lay ahead.

Debate Online Porn Law
Ashcroft
v. ACLU
The
Supreme Court recently blocked enforcement of a law intended
to protect children from pornography on the Internet,
saying that the law violates free-speech guarantees. Parties
from both sides will have to take the issue in a lower-court
trial which will give the Bush administration a chance
to prove the law does not violate free-speech rights.
The
law, known as the Child Online Protection Act (COPA),
would have authorized fines up to $50,000 for the crime
of placing material that is "harmful to minors" within
the easy reach of children on the Internet. The law also
would have required adults to use access codes and or
other ways of registering before they could see objectionable
material online.
Writing
for the majority, Justice Anthony Kennedy said, "the government
has not shown that the less-restrictive alternatives proposed
... should be disregarded. Those alternatives, indeed,
may be more effective" than the law passed by Congress.
Kennedy said rapid changes in technology would make filtering
software a more effective tool to block access than the
more restrictive means laid out in COPA, such as age verification
and use of a credit card. He said a new trial would allow
fresh discussion of the kinds of technology that could
satisfy constitutional concerns.
The
ACLU applauded the ruling. "There are many less restrictive
ways to protect children without sacrificing communication
intended for adults," said Ann Beeson, the ACLU attorney
who argued before the Court. "By upholding the order stopping
Attorney General Ashcroft from enforcing this questionable
federal law, the Court has made it safe for artists, sex
educators, and web publishers to communicate with adults
about sexuality without risking jail time."
