Thanks for the latest news letter, I'm glad to have read it. The cyber stalking article you had was just what I needed to read. Over the past few months, my girlfriend and I have been stalked by someone on AOL. This person changes screen names very often and has even "cloned" my screen name to impersonate me, ie. talking to people in IM's and chat rooms pretending to be me. Just for information you can use, AOL seems to care nothing about this kind of threat and does nothing to protect their members who are being harassed and stalked. Both myself and my girlfriend have had to file reports with the IFCC but still nothing seems to be getting done. If you want, contact me via reply eMail if you would like to hear about this in more detail and you might decide to use it in an update article. Maybe it might help someone else. We have both kept eMails and partial chat room logs of the activity. Thanks again, I'm sure the resources on the page will be helpful in this situation.

Your "Obese People Are Starving" article (7-9-04 issue) was definitely enlightening, but there is something to be said in favor of foods that are acidic. I have found this through personal experience. I have horrible acid reflux (even as a baby, I managed to spit up around 70% of my milk according to my mother) and to this day it continues, but medications do help control how much it burns. For a long time I stopped eating acidic foods altogether because of the reflux burn, but continued to drink plenty of water, eat vegetables, fruits, whole grains, white meat, and I stopped eating processed foods.

This helped the reflux, but I noted some changes: my urine was always cloudy, often a dark yellow color, and it would feel like I needed to use the bathroom 5 minutes after I had just gone. It didn't burn, but eventually when it started to have a reddish tint to it I had enough and went to my doctor. After urinalysis, I found out I had a urinary tract infection (UTI). Urine is supposed to have a pH (in other words, acidity level) of 5, and mine had a pH of 8 (pretty much lacking any acidity at all). My doctor told me that when that system lacks acidity, bacteria find it a wonderful place to grow.

Because I was avoiding foods that had acid, it was extremely easy for the bacteria to find a home inside of me. I was put on some light antibiotics (I've never been a big fan of putting chemicals and other things like that into my body, so I was relieved it was only for about 5 days) and instructed to drink at least a quart of cranberry juice a day for the next week, then after that to make sure to have about 8 oz. of it a day. I went out and bought a few gallons of no-sugar-added cranberry juice (if you look at the labels, you'll find most juices are only around 30% juice and have corn syrup added to them) and listened to my doctor. My symptoms disappeared, and I have been UTI-free since then.

A quick note to women about antibiotics - some types kill off most of the bacteria in your body, including the bacteria that grows naturally in your vagina. This will make it very easy to catch a yeast infection, so talk to your doctor about that if she/he prescribes antibiotics for you. Mine recommended having 6-8 oz. of yogurt a day (make sure the label says it contains active cultures) while on antibiotics to help keep healthy bacteria in your system. So, all in all, acid is an important thing to keep in your system and not avoid altogether.

The U.S. Army has long lured recruits with the slogan "Be All You Can Be," but now soldiers and their families can receive plastic surgery, including breast enlargements, on the taxpayers' dime.

The New Yorker magazine reports in its July 26th edition that members of all four branches of the U.S. military can get face-lifts, breast enlargements, liposuction and nose jobs for free -- something the military says helps surgeons practice their skills.

"Anyone wearing a uniform is eligible," Dr. Bob Lyons, chief of plastic surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio told the magazine, which said soldiers needed the approval of their commanding officers to get the time off. Between 2000 and 2003, military doctors performed 496 breast enlargements and 1,361 liposuction surgeries on soldiers and their dependents, the magazine said. The magazine quoted an Army spokeswoman as saying, "the surgeons have to have someone to practice on."

A Hong Kong court sentenced a man to six years in jail after he accidentally killed his girlfriend in a sex game of strangulation that turned horribly wrong, a court official said Wednesday. Yu Ping, 22, grabbed his lover's throat for about a minute after sex last February. He only discovered something was wrong when his lover did not regain consciousness.

Asphyxiation is widely believed to produce hallucinations that raise sexual pleasure. "Regardless that the activity was consensual, it must have been plain to him that what he was doing would place the deceased in considerable harm or even cause death," deputy High Court Judge Michael McMahon was quoted by newspapers on Wednesday as saying in his ruling.

A row has broken out in Holland over an alcoholic drink served in sperm-shaped bottles. Anti-drinking campaigners say it is a marketing gimmick which wrongly associates sex with alcohol. The bottles of Popsy contain a vanilla-caramel favored drink carrying the slogan "I'm coming". The Dutch Foundation for Alcohol Prevention says the campaign is perverse and breaks advertising codes. He says the codes are there to prevent the link being drawn between drinking and sexual or social success. The Foundation's Wim Van Dalen told Twentse Courant Tubantia: "They've crossed the bounds of decency. Its absolutely not done to link alcohol to sexuality that way."

Said Anne-Therese Enarsson, head of the organization, "We wanted to raise awareness about how the tobacco industry always promotes its products, through lies . . .

Our lies are so exaggerated that we hope they will make people stop and think, and then come to our website to find the truth."

Oestrogen Essential For Men's Sex Drive

Okay guy, you know your sex drive is about five notches above your friends', as much as they may boast. But guess what? It's because you have more oestrogen, a female sex hormone.

That's the word from Melbourne's Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research, at least as it applies to male mice. When researcher Evan Simpson placed male mice that lacked oestrogen into cages with females, all they did was sit in a corner -- very unusual behavior for typically macho mice. Simpson looked at the hypothalamus of the mice, which controls mouse and human sexual behavior, and discovered the oestrogen-free mice had noticeably fewer hypothalamus cells.

Apparently, men's bodies convert small amounts of testosterone into oestrogen. When the altered mice were given artificial oestrogen, they quickly got back into the business of making babies. There are records of human men lacking oestrogen, and they're typically not interested in sex, even in their 20s. The research will be published in Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience."

Birth Control Drug Lowers Sex Drive

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism provides research data showing that estradiol, the hormone in Provera, decreases the libidos of female monkeys while it increases aggression and anxiety. In contrast, progesterone, the naturally occurring form of Provera, doesn't have these effects. Investigator Dr. Karen Pazol suggests that physicians talk to women who're taking Provera and who're concerned about their sex drives or susceptible to mood disorders, and discuss other birth control options with them.

For those women out there that have tried Provera, most certainly will appreciate knowing that taking this drug may defeat the whole point as they were not wanting to choose abstinence as a form of birth control, and yet, with highly decreased sex drive that will be what ends up happening!

Internet Porn Requiring Adult Theater License?

An enforcement agent in the Business License Department of Tennessee has concocted a creative method of pestering a local "swingers" club. According to a lawsuit filed in federal court by the owner of the Green Door, twice last February the county cited the business for operating an adult theater without a license. But here's the kicker: The suit claims the agent who issued the misdemeanor citations said he did so because he was able to view porn on the computers the Green Door provides so its patrons may access the Internet.

"I really don't think the county understands the implications of (its) actions," said Allen Lichtenstein, the attorney for the Green Door who also does work for the local ACLU. "This is very far reaching, because it suggests the government has the right to regulate access to the Internet solely on the basis of what possible content a person might conceivably access."

Adults can surf the Web at a number of commercial establishments -- and also at public libraries. Are these places in violation of the law if they are located outside the county's "adult overlay zone"? Give us a break. "It's probably the first time the government has tried to regulate Internet access as an adult business," Mr. Lichtenstein noted. And, we hope, the last. But don't bet on it.
