Hi
Lisa,
I'm
suffering from incontinence. I'm overseas and have been getting
a lot of UTIs. I'm told the reason for the UTIs is the water we
shower in . Okay.. I can't help the water, but because of having
so many UTIs, now, when I have to go pee.. I don't realize it
until I stand up.. then.. I end up with my underwear a little
wet everytime because I can't make it to the bathroom in time.
I'm getting UTIs after long periods of inactivity as well.. so
I now believe the bad water excuse.

Hi
S.,
One
thing that you are not mentioning is how you are wiping after
you pee. If you wipe back to front (starting near the anus) you
may simply be carrying the bacteria from the anus up to the urethra
(pee hole). That is the most common way to get a UTI.
Therefore,
it is advisable to wipe front to back and do not repeat it with
the same toilet paper to prevent the bacteria from getting to
the urethra.
I would be surprised if it was your water if your water is treated
at a water filtration facility before it gets to you, there would
be no reason for the water to be causing it. However, if it is
not treated water, I would use antibacterial soap and instead
of washing with water in the vaginal area, you might want to use
special wipes so that you can stay clean without the risk of the
water getting in.
Oral
sex is one of the most common sexual ways to get a UTI as the
mouth carries a lot of bacteria. Of course sexual activity of
any sort can bring bacteria to the urethra, but because you are
getting them without sexual activity, my thought is that it is
the way you are wiping.
Strengthening
the Kegel muscles is always a good idea, regardless of UTIs.
