Erectile Dysfunction
Exploring New Options

It is a common mistake to think that struggling to get or maintain an erection is for older guys. It happens to men of all age's… teens and up. Causes can range from performance anxiety to physical problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, elevated cholesterol levels, and diabetes. Also many medications, especially blood pressure medications and anti-psychotic drugs, can cause erectile dysfunction or impotence as a side effect.

Impotence (or better known as "Erectile Dysfunction- ED" these days) can feel frustrating and humiliating, but let's keep it in perspective. How many times has a woman had sex and not had an orgasm, or not been "wet" enough. We all need a little help sometimes when our bodies are not cooperating with us, and this is simply nothing to be ashamed of or try to hide.

Try to use impotence as a means to have better sex, rather than have it be worse. Use it as an opportunity to try new techniques, connect emotionally with your lover, and even get in touch with your masculinity in a new way. Remember that a man having an erection is not what makes a man.

Examples Of Potential Reasons

  • Medical Causes: high blood pressure, heart disease, elevated cholesterol levels, and diabetes.

  • Psychological Causes: Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, and others.

  • Prescription Interaction: A list of over-the-counter and prescription medications as long as the Wall of China could be made to cover everything that can cause a "floppy" penis. The best thing to do is make a list of all medications (including herbs & supplements) that you are using and review them with a pharmacist and/or you physician.

  • Biking: Yep, it's true, temporary numbness can occur from riding bikes (especially where a lot of hard-core road shock is going on).

  • Condoms: Condoms that are too tight may cause a numbing sensation that decreases feeling, thus make staying aroused or cumming more difficult. True, it can prolong sex,  but if you are struggling with E.D., then you should get a loose condom.
This is not to say that you should ignore ongoing impotence, in fact we highly recommend you do not, and will cover important suggestions later in this article. What we are saying however, that this is an opportunity not a disaster. Solutions depend on the situation.

To Women-

Remember that giving pleasure to a man does not require him to have a hard-on. A nice blow job or hand massage feels just as nice to a man when his penis is soft as it does hard. It really depends on how comfortable you feel with one another. However, you don't want a woman trying to "squeeze" an erection out of a man when he simply isn't going to get one. The object is pleasure not performance if this suggestion is used. It may pleasure a man, or it can make him feel insecure and inadequate… again it really depends on comfort levels of the couple.

To Men-

You can make lemonade from lemons until you have figured out a more long-term solution for yourself- This can be a a good time for a man to use fingers, mouth and play toys to pleasure his partner. Female Ejaculation in particular is more easily achieved when full attention can be given to a woman's pleasure and this is a great time to do it.

Also remember that your female lover may be feeling rejected. Women often worry that it is because of them (i.e.: that they are not attractive enough.) That is why if both partners are willing it is an excellent time to play with your lovely lady as it will make her feel truly appreciated and she will thank you for the selfless attention.

Continued episodes of Erectile Dysfunction in men (especially over forty) can be one of the first signs of an impending stroke or heart attack. The arteries in the penis start to "clog" up before the rest of the body, so getting an exam is a good idea.

If you or a man in your life has issues with a "floppy" penis and it is an ongoing issue it is time to take that sleeping one eyed snake into see the Doc. It is estimated that well over 50% of all Erectile Dysfunction is due to a physical cause anything from diabetes to god only knows. The Doctor may just do a little test after asking some questions as to whether the "pokey pecker" ever gets hard-ons these days. The test allows a man to see if he is catching wood in his sleep. If he is, then most M.D.'s say the problem is psychological. However medications can be an influence so any medications being taken should be examined for their side effects. In addition, there is even evidence that depression can actually keep a guy from getting a stiff one even in his sleep so exploring hormones and emotions is always a good idea.

Diabetes & Erectile Dysfunction: What You Can Do To Enhance Erection

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is very common in men with diabetes. The reasons are complex but include changes in both blood vessels and nerves of the penis. The first step in handling this problem is support from a partner or spouse. With such support, all things are possible.

There are many treatment options for ED in men with diabetes. Viagra is one option, although it may be less effective in men with diabetes. This does not mean it will not work, it just means that you have less of a chance of it working. It is still an option that may well worth exploring.

Injection or Insertion Therapy
Injection therapy uses a drug that is given with a syringe and needle directly into the erect portion of the penis. It thus places the medication directly where it is needed and is one of the most effective methods to treat ED. For men who do not desire injections, the same medication is available as a pellet and is inserted into the urinary opening at the head of the penis. You can obtain this by getting a prescription from your physician.

Vacuum Erection Device (Penis Pump)
This uncomplicated device uses a clear plastic cylinder that is placed around the penis and uses a pump mechanism to create a vacuum around the penis. The vacuum causes the penis to become erect, and when it is suitably erect, a band or "cock ring" is placed around the base of the penis. The pump is then removed and intercourse performed. When done, the band is removed and the penis returns to its non-erect form.

Penile Prosthesis (Implant)
A penile implant is a device that is placed into a man’s body and is designed to help him get an erection. Following the routine outpatient procedure, a four to eight week recovery period is necessary before the implant is used. The hospital stay is usually overnight or for two days. This technique has been developed extensively over the past decades and is now very standardized. There are a number of patient education documents available. The two largest providers of penile prostheses are Mentor Corp and American Medical Systems.

When implanted, the penile implants are not visibly noticeable. The penis appears relaxed and normal in the flaccid state, and it is not obvious by looking at a man that he has an implant. You should be able to have an orgasm with a penile implant if you were able to have one before your surgery, unless you have another medical problem that affects it.

Get Help From A Physician

No matter what treatment you ultimately choose, you will need to develop a relationship with a doctor who has experience in offering all forms of diabetes treatment. Urologists have a special expertise in this area and can discuss all of these options.

Hollow Dildos & Erectile Dysfunction

With limited options for Erectile Dysfunction when Viagra does not work or cannot be taken there are a few options that sex toys can offer before one would consider doing something as extreme as a penile implant.

Penis Traction

There is one product that can be used as an alternative to pumps that uses what is referred to as penis traction. Penis traction works by steadily stretching the shaft of the penis causing the cells to divide and multiply (cytokinesis) which promotes new and permanent tissue growth throughout the penis in a matter of weeks to enlarge the penis as well as assist with erectile dysfunction as well as Peyronie's Disease. Learn more about how penis traction works.

Penis Pumps & Rings

If you are able to get a partial erection or simply cannot hold it, you may want to first consider using a penis pump to help engorge the penis with blood and then use a penis ring that slides down to the base of the shaft to hold the blood in and keep the erection firm until ejaculation occurs. There are some myths about what a penis pump and penis rings (cockrings) can do so we have put together articles that will help you to better understand how to use them, what they can offer and also how to use them safely without causing tissue damage.

Hollow Dildos & Two Hole Harnesses-

If you wish to explore using a strap-on dildo whether or not you can get erect and hold the erection, then there are two options. The first is to use a hollow dildo and the second is to use a harness that allows you to fit inside or outside of it while you penetrate using a dildo. There are some pros and cons to using each and it is important to review them so that you make sure that you do not get something that will not work for you or your partner.

Hollow Dildos-

Despite the large sex toy industry, there are very few companies that make hollow dildos on the market today and even fewer that make them so that they are nontoxic. We have all of the nontoxic hollow dildos that are available at this time on our site from which you may choose. However, there are a few things to note about hollow dildos that are currently available-

  • They are typically 1.75 - 2 inches in diameter on the outside. In fact, we have not found a model at this time that is smaller in width. The large diameter is done so that the penis will fit inside whether you are semi erect or flaccid. The problem that many couples find in using these larger dildos is that the female partner often finds them to be too big and may even find it painful.

  • Hollow dildos that are currently on the market are very hard on the inside (table top firm) and do not provide stimulation to the male user in any way.

  • There are currently no vibrating hollow dildos on the market, however, you can put a bullet vibrator inside them at the end or use a vibrating ring over them.

  • Most hollow dildos are also very hard on the outside and do not feel natural. There is only one available at this time which offers a softer realistic outside and it is called the Perfect Extension.

  • Most couples have found the hollow dildos on the market today to be too large, too hard and not comfortable for the female and not stimulating for the male. With this in mind, we have a different suggestion for those looking to use a strap-on for Erectile Dysfunction outlined below.

Double Hole Harness Option-

One of the most popular suggestions that we offer to couples that are dealing with Erectile Dysfunction is to use a harness that has two holes in it. What this allows is for the couple to use any dildo they like so that they can choose size, color, texture and material while allowing for skin to skin contact (which hollow dildos are not designed to do).

The way that this works is that the male puts his penis in the bottom hole and then puts the dildo in the top. This allows him to penetrate his lover while still rubbing up against his lover providing him with skin to skin contact and stimulation. In addition, if he is erect, he can penetrate his lover without having to take off the harness.

The Best Realistic Strap-On Dildos

When asked by our customers for the best strap-on dildo to use with a harness, we often refer them to the Tantus O2 line. There are a few reasons that we recommend dildos such as these-

Some of the most durable dildos are silicone, metal and glass. Most customers when looking for a strap-on indicate that they want something that is realistic feeling. That pretty much rules out metal and glass because while they are great dildos and feel really good, they do not feel like a real penis and are not for someone who wants something realistic.

Most silicone dildos do not feel realistic so that is why many consumers buy dildos made from skin like materials such as Cyberskin. The problem with these skin types of materials is that they are very porous and they tear easily.

Strap-On & Harness Guide

When a sex toy is porous it can hold onto bacteria easily and it is much more difficult to keep clean. To clean them you must use a spray on toy cleaner, let the cleaner get down into the pores and then rinse it off. You cannot use soap as the soap will stay in the pores and many create a soapy lather the next time you use it. It is important to keep the bacteria off a sex toy as it can cause a urinary tract infection (UTI) or even contribute to a yeast infection.

This is why we are often asked by our customers if we have silicone sex toys that feel like skin and are realistic to the touch. Currently, there is only one line of medical grade silicone dildos that meets this description and that is the Tantus O2 line. What we also like about them is that they have a firm inner core but a softer outer layer that is velvety smooth and slightly squishy like a real penis. They are rigid like an erect penis and will not flop around like Cyberskin style dildos. Finally, because they are made with medical grade silicone, they are nonporous and will not harbor bacteria, they are also very easy to clean.

Pure, 100% medical grade, silicone dildos tend to be more expensive than other dildos because the silicone material is more expensive for manufacturers to use, however, it is well worth it because they are also extremely durable and will literally last a lifetime unlike other dildos that may have to be replaced after a couple years if not sooner.
