Stress On Sexual Performance
Stress can increase the hormone cortisol in the body, which can suppress our sex hormones and, in turn, lower our libido. One of the effects of stress hormones is narrowing your blood vessels. When less blood flows into your genitals, it's more difficult to become physically aroused. Most literature about this focuses on a man being unable to achieve an erection (erectile dysfunction: ED), but this also applies to a woman who needs healthy blood circulation to get aroused, engorge her clitoris, and lubricate her vagina to achieve orgasm.
Does Sex Help Stress Levels?
From a physiological standpoint, sex can help reduce stress levels by raising endorphins and other hormones that boost mood. Sexual activity lowers blood pressure afterward, so it can help your body handle stress better.
How To Have Sex When Stressed
Creating a relaxing environment to have sex can help improve your mood. Listening to sensual music, lighting candles, using massage oils, and using lubricants can all make sex while experiencing stress easier.
Using spooning positions where you are being held for sexual penetration can also feel supportive and more intimate. Also sex positions with eye contact may feel emotionally supportive. Using sex toys to aid in achieving orgasm more quickly can also take pressure off sexual performance.
Holistic Stress Reduction
Eastern medicine views that it is not stress that causes illness but how we deal with it. Allowing time to relax and becoming mindful is an excellent stress reducer. Do not be fooled into thinking that sitting in front of the television or searching the internet constitutes time for you to relax. These types of activities are still adding more input into your life. The goal of relaxation is to discontinue taking things in from our daily lives and allow your mind and body to truly relax. The following are suggestions on activities and items that may assist you in creating a sacred space, one that truly allows you to relax.
